Update on Mater Heart Run 2017

Greetings from Mater Misericordiae Hospital.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for your support during the Mater Heart Run over the years. We cannot adequately express the value you add to our efforts to “touch a child’s heart”.

We are a Catholic Hospital, founded in 1962 by The Sisters of Mercy. The Mater Cardiac Program was started in 1995 to identify and treat children with heart ailments, especially those from poor socio-economic background. To date over 3000 heart procedures have been performed by our cardiac program.  In 2008, the hospital started cardiac outreach camps in various parts of Kenya to screen children for heart ailments and educate the community on Rheumatic fever which leads to acquired heart disease.  This is a preventable condition but could lead to death if ignored. The cardiac camps are part of the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.  The camps are done at no cost to the community but through fundraising activities.

The annual Mater Heart Run is the main fundraising event for the Mater Cardiac Program. In 2016, the Run raised a total of Ksh 88,549,739, which enabled us to do 78 heart surgeries and 19 Cardiac Catheterization procedures on children from economically disadvantaged background.

This year’s Run is scheduled for Saturday 20th May 2017 at 7:00am simultaneously in nine (9) different towns namely; Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos, Mumias, Kisumu, Nyeri, Meru, Eldoret and Nakuru.
